The interchange was built in 1992 as part of the Vidyasagar Setu bridge. Initially, the interchange was on the outskirts of the city, and intended as a highway interchange. However, the city has since grown around it, and the interchange has become part of it. This has led to this unique image of an road interchange weaving through a city.
